A bustling shopping street that has remained unchanged since the Edo period

Nakamise Shopping Street

仲見世通り

About 250 meters long, the front approach to Senso-ji Temple is lined with vermilion-lacquered shops. These shops offer a variety of souvenirs and snacks, such as Asakusa’s famous kaminari-okoshi (puffed rice snacks) and ningyo-yaki (bite-sized cakes with fillings), as well as various Japanese artisanal goods and traditional crafts. At night, the shutters of the storefronts are lit up, revealing murals known as the Asakusa Emaki picture scrolls. (→Click here for the shutter murals along Nakamise Shopping Street.
