Modern architecture that shines in the dark
Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Japan’s first public art museum, opened in 1926. The museum stays open at night for special exhibitions, and the modernist building glows enigmatically in the dark. You can enter the building to use the restaurant, cafe, and museum shop without paying admission.

- 9:30 AM–5:30 PM (open until 8:00 PM on Fridays during special exhibitions; last entry is 30 minutes before closing)
- 1st and 3rd Mondays; Mondays for special and thematic exhibitions (open if Monday is a national holiday and closed the following weekday)
- Admission fees depend on the exhibition
