How to use ReadSpeaker and notes
What is ReadSpeaker?
ReadSpeaker is a text-to-speech service provided by ReadSpeaker Japan, which reads text information on websites aloud.
By providing information on a site in audio form, the service enables elderly people, those with eyesight issues, and those who are prone to eye strain to use the site comfortably.
No dedicated plugins or apps are required. It can be used for free.
How to use
- Click the [Text-to-Speech] button in the header, and a pre-defined range of text will be automatically read aloud.
- Use the mouse to select sentences to have read aloud and click the [Text-to-Speech] button, and only the selected sentences will be read aloud.
- Hover the cursor over the bottom left of the player and click [WebReader Menu] to display the toolbar and operate various functions.
- Click the gear icon in the toolbar to change the highlight color, text color, text scale in simple view display, auto scroll, etc.
- Open the help “?” in the toolbar to display detailed information on how to use ReadSpeaker.
- Please enable JavaScript in order to use all functions.
Keyboard operation
- Most functions of ReadSpeaker can be activated through the operation of a combination of keys (keyboard shortcuts). Users can change these shortcuts in the [Settings] pop-up window.
Once the shortcut has been set up, the shortcut “Shift + K” can be used to focus on the [Text-to-Speech] button in the webReader. “Shift + L” will focus on the player and start to read aloud.
Examples of important shortcuts:

With regard to the player and the menu, if the user sets the player to be focused on, for example, “Tab/Shift+Tab” can be used for navigation, and the Enter key or the Space bar can be used to operate a specific button or option.

Please note that this is an automatic text-to-speech service using a synthesized voice. Names of people and places, proper nouns, abbreviations, etc. may not be pronounced correctly.
